LF supporters demonstrate as patriarch visits east Beirut
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butros Sfeir visited Achrafieh Thursday evening to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lady of Iconoclast Church. Thousands of people joined Sfeir in the march that proceeded from the Sassine Square to the Monastery of Lazarist Fathers, where he held a Mass. Demonstrators were mostly supporters of the disbanded Lebanese Forces (LF) carrying the flags of their group.

Earlier in the day, Sfeir had said that Lebanon was for all the Lebanese regardless of religion or affiliation, while addressing a delegation from the student committees at Universite Saint Joseph (USJ), who visited him to complain about the problems they faced on Independence Day. Sfeir told the visiting student delegation this was the fate of those reclaiming Lebanon’s independence, and that it was not the first time such an incident has taken place. “It is really sad that the youths’ aspirations and ambitions were oppressed,” Sfeir said, adding that it was only a matter of time before they succeed in achieving their objectives as “the future is yours.” “Today you are still students, but in a few years you will be in the field where you will have responsibilities,” he said, advising the students to learn and benefit from what happened to them.

Sfeir also told the students to learn patriotism from “people who believe they are patriots but do not show it,” and urged them to behave wisely and rationally amid the difficult conditions the country was facing, and not to follow their instincts. Sfeir said that all the Lebanese should unite in calling for their rights, and warned that there was someone who was benefiting from widening the gap between the country’s various groups, underlining that unity “would make us realize our ambitions.” Sfeir also received a delegation from the Citizen’s Right and Obligations Association, which he praised for including Lebanese from different sects. Sfeir said in response to the visit that “this is what we are looking for, and you are the young people who should dedicate yourselves to the nation.” He also advised his visitors to benefit from mistakes committed by officials, to absolve themselves from faults, and to uphold real values, which no country can do without.

Lebanese Forces Media
Due to the recent increase in visitors to the site, the bandwidth for our media (mp3s, videos and speeches) reached 32GB last month. Our current server can only handle 30GB. For this reason we have decided to expand our "Media Center" with the purchase of a new domain to host our media under. The new domain is LebaneseForcesMedia.com. This domain will be hosted on a new server with a 65GB bandwidth.

What does this mean to you?
With the new increase in bandwidth we will be able to provide you more music, more videos and more speeches. The transfer of the files from our old server to the new server will take place in the coming few days. There will be no interruption to the main LebaneseForces.com site but there might be problems with our media files. Sorry for the inconvenience.

A huge demonstration in Paris
The Lebanese Forces - Paris Chapter held a huge demonstration on Lebanon’s independence day in France. More than 250 people gathered up together in front of the Lebanese embassy in Paris seeking the independence of Lebanon and the liberation of our great leader Dr. Samir Geagea.

M. Elie Baraghid, of the Paris Chapter Head Office, spoke to the media (LBC, Dubai TV and some other Gulf stations and media) declaring that Lebanon needs its real independence and peace. He said that a valid independence requires the withdrawal of the Syrian army while true peace calls for the liberation of Hakim.

The Lebanese Forces - Paris Chapter sent a memo to the France and European Administration describing the deteriorating situation in Lebanon and presented them with the Lebanese Force’s position towards this situation.

For Raya and Jad Mezher
The cowardly attacks on children and families in Saudia has deeply saddened all freedom lovers and has caused us to stand along and support the war on terrorism more than ever. We cannot imagine the anguish, pain and grief the parents of these children are feeling at the moment and we look forward to the day all these fanatics are crushed.

Jad, 7, Raya, 4 Arrive in Coffins, Father on Stretcher, Mother in Wheelchair
Four-year old Raya, and her older brother, Jad, 7, were repatriated in coffins from the terrorist truck-bombing of the Saudi capital. Their father was carried on a stretcher and their mother in a wheelchair. The Mizher family tragedy descended on Lebanon Wednesday, when a Saudi hospital plane flew the four home, 10 days after the terrorist bombing at the Al-Muhaya residential compound in Riyadh.

The bodies of Charbel Mizher and Maggie Atallah's two only children were promptly whisked to a church in Badaro. The parents were taken to hospital for treatment – the father, alert, but physically weak with multiple fractures and burns all over his body; the mother, three months pregnant, with broken limbs that have immobilized her. The Mizhers had to wait for Charbel's condition to stabilize before the special plane, courtesy of Saudi Defense Minister Prince Sultan flew them home.

Patriarch Again Vetoes an Extension for Lahoud
Patriarch Sfeir has again vetoed a constitutional amendment that would allow President Lahoud to remain in office beyond the expiry of his current term next November, but there were official insinuations that Syria has promised to help the president get a three-year extension. "We've spent 50 years contending the constitution is untouchable, but in recent years people had thought of amending it at every presidential election," the head of the Maronite church told a visiting delegation of Lebanon's Journalists Association at his seat in Bkirki on Wednesday.

"The constitution must be respected," the cardinal said in his statement that was splashed by An Nahar on Thursday. "The constitution should not be amended except for a catastrophic event, such as an earthquake or a world war." The Patriarch's statement coincided with an apparent resurrection of the use of the state-run National News Agency to sing the praise of the president of the republic with reports attributed to unnamed sources or observers.

An NNA report Wednesday evening quoted observers as dispelling the general impression of the Beirut media that Lahoud's three-hour summit talks with President Assad in Damascus did little to elevate his esteem in Syria's grace or improve his chances for an extension. "The summit was an opportunity for Syria to renew its conviction that President Lahoud's presence at the helm of the state in Lebanon constitutes an element and immunity for Lebanon in coping with impending dangers," NNA quoted involved sources in Damascus as saying.

The NNA report was expedited by As Safir newspaper, which quoted unidentified "highly knowledgeable circles" of its own as saying Assad had assured Lahoud that Syria did not only support him as a "first among equals" but basically as the "main element of balance within the context of the domestic formula concerning regional events." The same "circles" were quoted as saying the final outcome of the Damascus summit was an agreement on a "half-extension for Lahoud and half-departure for Premier Rafik Hariri." The obvious meaning is that Lahoud would stay three more years in office to duplicate former President Elias Hrawi's affair. During these extra years Hariri won't be the prime minister.

Bachir Gemayel Poster Ignites LU Strife
A crowd of furious LF students demonstrated against the director of their LU business faculty in Achrafieh following the removal of a poster saluting Bachir Gemayel, vowing to force him out of his position. The poster, which hailed the former President elect as the founder of the faculty, disappeared Monday morning to the surprise of the students, who erected a portrait of Bachir in military uniform in the same spot. They pledged to prevent director George Khalil, who left his office at 9:30, to return. When Khalil did not show up, the activists announced an open-ended strike until he is replaced, saying they would confront him 'by force' if necessary.

A meeting later between the president of the student council and the dean of the faculty Nasrallah Nasrallah was described as fruitless by the students. While denying he had anything to do with the removal, Khalil had spoken earlier of a decision to remove all political and partisan posters on campus.

Significantly, Free Patriotic Movement activists took a neutral stance in the quarrel.

AUB elections 2004
AUB elections will be held on Wednesday, November 19th. For the third consecutive year now, LF AUB is participating in these elections allied with other major Christian parties under the Student League name.

Thursday and Friday was preparations day for the elections. Sheikh Bashir Gemayel's pictures filled the stand for the first time since maybe 20 years while "Free Dr.Geagea" stickers were placed all over Campus. Quotes from Dr. Charles Malek, Dr.Geagea and Sheikh Bashir were put on our stand with a quote by Hassan Nasrallah (which attracted a lot of people), stating indirectly that we need Federalism in Lebanon.

The administration later forced us to take the Bash posters down because the by-laws for elections prohibits pictures of political leaders. Also apparently other parties complained about it but we kept one poster. Finally patriotic songs were heard all over the West Hall where the elections are taking place.

Thanks to all the guys who helped. Our Cause is the Lebanese Cause and wherever there are Lebanese Forces, the Cause will prevail.. even in the non-free regions.

Fight at NDU
There was a major fight at NDU between the LF and the FPM (Aounieh). The Aounieh started the fight by cursing and insulting our leader Samir Geagea which resulted in the LF students attacking the aounieh and badly injuring four of them. The injured FPM students had to be taken by the Red Cross.

Today the FPM have shown their true colors. First they insulted all the Christian parties and Jesus at LAU, then they insult our leader at NDU. Shame on them.

Finally the LF managed to get only 2 seats at NDU after university officials cancelled nearly all their voting cards.

LAU Elections Update: FPM student insult's Jesus Christ
Today morning the FPM tried to make it look as if they removed themselves from the Anti-Syrian list instead of being kicked out of it yesterday for dealing with the Pro-Syrians. This ofcourse did not work since word had already gotten around about the deals the FPM had made with the Pro-Syrians.

The worst thing came this morning when Mr. Fadi Khoury who was a communist at LAU Beirut and suddenly became an FPM member at LAU Jbeil started cursing the Lebanese Forces, the Lebanese Student Front parties, the christians and even Christ himself!

More updates coming later.

LAU Election Update: FPM Deal with Pro-Syrians
As every year at LAU, all the anti-Syrian parties are working together with each other for the elections at the Byblos Campus. But this year things seem to be different. The LF, Al Ahrar, Amine Gemayel's Kataeb, Al Ketla, Independent Front, the Armenians and the Democrates were on agreement but the FPM seemed to be working on different levels.

The whole situation got cleared today. The FPM were on the Anti-Syrian list (Lebanese Student Front) but there was something going on under the table between them and the pro-Syrian parties. So now the Lebanese Student Front are going to elections with or without the FPM support. Moreover they are including two of the FPM on their lists, preferring them over replacing them with pro-Syrians. This will prove to the FPM that the Lebanese Student Front can let anyone they support win the list.

I would like to conclude here by telling the LF students from a certain university whom stood with the FPM recently, that the article published by Dragunov, “Resistance Priorities” about the FPM was all true and todays discovery proves that.

The FPM are working against the LF in all universities. The FPM still need to develop politically; otherwise they will be on their own. I would finally like to say that we also heard from the pro-Syrian parties that they won't let the FPM join their list because they do not trust them after what they did with the Lebanese Student Front.

Senate Passes Syria Accountability Act
By a vote of 89 to 4, the Senate Tuesday joined the House of Representatives in passing a measure placing sanctions on Syria unless it stops supporting terrorism and ends its occupation of Lebanon.

The Syria Accountability Act requires the president to prohibit the export to Syria of any items on the U.S. Munitions List or Commerce Control List, items of a military or dual-use nature. In addition, the legislation would require the president to choose two or more sanctions, from a menu of sanctions, to be imposed on Syria.

Sfeir laments neglect of Taif
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butros Sfeir said Monday that the country would not have got into the state it is currently in if the Taif Accord had been implemented. Speaking during the opening of the 37th session of the Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops Council in Lebanon, Sfeir added that justice was administered on the basis of political whims. Sfeir tackled the issue of emigration, which was the theme of this session. He said that if the Taif Accord had been implemented, “the Lebanese youth, and particularly the Christians would not have suffered” from having to leave the country. He explained the reasons of emigration which date back to 1860 and the days of the Ottoman empire. At the time, poverty, deprivation, and corruption forced people to leave Lebanon, he said.

Sfeir said that during his recent 40-day European trip, he was asked by emigrants if there were opportunities here in Lebanon and if they should return, but he sorrowfully told them that he “could not answer” that question. Sfeir also said Lebanese emigrants excelled in many fields, such as medicine, science, and even politics. He said this was the positive aspect of emigration, adding that the number of civil war victims would have doubled if emigrants had not assisted their families.

An Nahar's Guards Overpower a Grenade-Wielding Palestinian
An Nahar's security apparatus overpowered a Palestinian who entered the ground floor of the newspaper's building at Beirut's commercial thoroughfare of Hamra Monday, carrying a knife and a hand grenade concealed in a sack. The assailant, identified as Mohammed Abdullah Al Hassan, threatened to detonate the grenade and commit suicide by cutting his wrist veins before An Nahar's security guards leaped on the man, pinned him to the floor and disarmed him.

He was later handed over to police units who rushed to the scene from the neighboring buildings of the Central Bank and the Information ministry. Police are investigating the motives of the assailant. Interior minister Michel Murr and Information Minister Michel Samaha also rushed down from their neighboring offices to express their denunciation of the attack. So did a stream of politicians, senior officers of Lebanon's internal security forces and trade union leaders. Gebran Tueni, general manager of An-Nahar, did not speculate on the man's motives for bringing a bomb into the newspaper building. "Let's see what the investigation comes up with," he told The Associated Press.

Veuillez envoyer vos avis à webmaster@lebaneseforces.com

Militants confess to attacking US fast-food restaurants
Mohammed Kaaki has confessed to carrying out, together with accomplice Khaled Ali, a wave of bombings that targeted US fast-food restaurants last year. He made the confession Friday while he was being interrogated by officers of the Military Tribunal. The bombs targeted Pizza Hut and Winners fast-food restaurants, causing only material damage. Kaaki said that he and Ali had started coordinating after the Afghanistan war in 2002. Kaaki also confessed to corresponding through the internet with Lebanese-Australian Bilal Khazaal, who published an Islamic magazine dealing with issues related to Muslims in Afghanistan and Bosnia. However, Kaaki denied receiving any money from Khazaal to spend on activities in this country.

Reply from Belgium after yesterdays Q&A
Dear Lebanese friends, You've been a great help to me. Maybe you know that - like in Lebanon - the Islamisation of Europe and Belgium is a process that is happening faster and faster. In France 1/3 of the births are Islamic. In Brussels, now already the majority of the births are Islamic. In mosques, financed by Saudi-Arabia, they pray the holy war. In my own city, Antwerp, on September 11, 2001, Muslims were celebrating the attacks in New York.

Of course, I am familiar with the Lebanese cause against the Syrian occupation, which I totally support. I myself, I am militant in the Vlaams Blok, the Flemish nationalist party. This is our website: http://www.vlaamsblok.be.

I've heard, that in Brussels, we have a lot of sympathy in Lebanese-Christian circles. There are also some Lebanese members of our party. If I can do something to help your cause, let me know!

    Greetings,
    Wim

    Question & Answer: Translation Request

    Question
Dear friends, In my country Belgium, politicians want to give the right to vote to non-nationals. This is stupid. The majority of those new voters are Islamic. Radical Muslims are already organizing the jihad in my country (and the rest of Europe) and forming a new political party that will gain a lot of vote amongst these people.

I am searching for the Arabic Phonetic Translation of the slogan 'No right to vote for non-nationals' (in French: Non au droit de vote des étrangers). Can you help me? I need it very quick.

    Thank You

    -------------------

    Answer
Dear Sir, We totally support your cause as we don't consider ourselves arabs and we have been fighting the whole muslim world for hundreds of years to support that claim.

The phonetic translation is like this:
La Li Hak Al Intikhab Li Ghayr Al Mouwatinin

In Arabic لا لحق الانتخاب لغير المواطنين

Sfeir: Lebanon not the master of its own decisions
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Butros Sfeir said on Saturday that Lebanon was not the master of its own decisions and that its sovereignty was violated due to Syria’s influence on its decisions. Speaking during a two-hour dialogue held at Oxford University in London, Sfeir highlighted the importance of maintaining good relations with Syria, but said that Lebanon had the right to be in control of its own territories and have complete freedom in any decision-making. Sfeir said that he categorically refused dividing the country into sectarian cantons, adding, “coexistence is our destiny.” He said that the country’s importance was in the variety of its aspects, adding that he was striving to unite all Lebanese, not just Christians. Sfeir’s name was added to the list of prominent personalities whose pictures were posted on the university’s walls after giving speeches there.

    Letter from the FPM
We received an email from the Aounieh (FPM) which we would like to share with everyone. This email proves what we said earlier which is that the FPM has still to reach political maturity.
