Hacker Hijacks Surete General's Website
A hacker hi-jacked the website of Lebanon's Surete General Friday morning, replacing the site's usual postings with a page-full of poetic tributes to freedom and independence directed against the government's March 10th attack on the students.

ISF attacks demonstrators at USJ
A peaceful student sit-in protesting the emigration of young Lebanese because of political corruption turned violent on Wednesday when a mass of security forces descended upon the demonstrators at the Saint Joseph University (USJ) in Achrafieh.

The students were beaten with rifle butts, three were arrested, and several injured, including Sami Gemayel, former President Amin Gemayel’s son. Organized by USJ students, including the Phalange Party-opposition wing, the Lebanese Forces and the National Liberal Party, the midday protest attracted about 100 students and at least double that number of security forces.

Hayyan Bourji, a second-year business management student, said Gemayel was beaten up by Internal Security Forces as were most of the demonstrating students. Bourji said students were planning to head to the Museum area and the Cabinet headquarters, but security forces surrounded the campus and blocked off all exits. “They feared that this peaceful manifestation of ours might turn into a protest against the Syrian presence in Lebanon and Syria itself,” he added.

Bourji said banners denounced government policies that drive young people to emigrate. “Many students were hurt and some were injured,” said Bourji. When the violence set in the students broke up, and some tried to go home. The army intelligence with the help of ISF personnel caught them and gave them another round of severe beatings said Bourji. “They said they had photos of all of the protesters, which is all a lie. Many innocent bystanders were dragged to the other parking lot and hit under that argument. I was beaten up twice and the last to be hit too.”

The ISF issued a statement, accusing demonstrators of provoking them and throwing stones, sticks and empty bottles, leaving three officers and five soldiers injured. The statement also accused students of promoting anti-Syrian and anti-government slogans. Members of the Qornet Shehwan Gathering and the Democratic Forum strongly condemned the oppression. Zghorta MP Nayla Mouawad, who is also a member of the USJ’s board of trustees, said she will be meeting with the university’s president to discuss the student’s situation. “It is not acceptable that the students get freed today, and then get arrested tomorrow from their houses,” she said. “There has to be a political remedy for this, and we are currently working on that,” she said.

“This repressive behavior by the security forces is unjustified and unacceptable,” said Metn MP Pierre Gemayel. “It was a peaceful sit-in and the security forces were supposed to contain the defenseless students not beat them up.” Gemayel said Beirut governor Yaacoub Sarraf’s recent ban on street gatherings until the end of municipal elections scheduled for May, was an “arbitrary” decision. “This only happens in dictatorial countries,” he said.

MP Neamat Allah Abi Nasr condemned the behavior of the security forces and wondered whether a peaceful student demonstration was more dangerous than the riot that occurred in the Ouzai area earlier this week, when residents who were illegally connected to the power grid had shot at bill collectors. “Is it possible that the authorities, failing to maintain its dignity while trying to remove illegal electricity connections, tried to restore it through beating students on their own campus?” he said in his statement.

LF AUB Slaughter FPM
The LF AUB basketball team played against the FPM AUB team this week in their first game of the season. The LF AUB team which was led by Tabouk and Al_3agib devastated the opposition by winning the game 90 to 67. Due to injuries, the 2 teams were allowed to bring in one foreigner who had to be from AUB. The LF team picked an Ahrar member, while the FPM were helped by a Ketle member. The game started off very close with the FPM leading by half time. The second half was a complete turnaround with great defensive play by the LF with 3agib making four blocks, five steals and twenty rebounds, while Captain Tabouk made four consecutive 3-pointers in the last five minutes to create a comfortable lead. The LF team members were also wearing shirts with the phrase "Law baddo yerja3 mache keen wossel" (If he wanted to come walking he would have been here by now). A great game from a great team.

EOD Vehicles
This is not related to the Lebanese Forces but I saw these 2 off-road vehicles next to my office and was wondering if anyone can give me more details about them. They look liked hummers on steroids. I believe they are being used in Iraq. Their was a Pajero parked next to it and these vehicles were are 30 or more centimeters taller. The cars are also right hand drive which I am assuming makes them British. If you have info on these vehicles please contact me.

Here are pictures of the vehicles:
