"You
have won the war as fighters and I lost it as a leader.
I asked you to resist for 12 hours, instead you resisted
for 72 long hours"
– Samir Geagea
This book by our LF comrade Paul Andari, is a testimony
of the tragic war that happened during the year 1983 between
the Druze and the Christians. At first, the author gives
us a historical background of the Druze-Christian co-habitation
in the mountains and the continuous bickering between
the two groups, and how it led to the Mountain war.
The Author then focuses on how Hakim took over the Mountain
(while Christian leaders were concerned with other issues
unable to take any decisions) and acted as a true leader,
restructuring, organizing, boosting the morals of the
fighters, giving strict and wise orders, and most of all
resisting by all means to defend the Christians and disallowing
the Druze of committing genocide against the Christians.
The author makes us live his experience with Hakim and
the rest of the fighters. HE shows us the courage and
heroism of those LF fighters that gave up their lives
to preserve the Christian regions and save the Christians
souls and become martyrs of our Sacred Cause (his brother
was among the martyrs too).
Finally, the author shows us the unwise, weak and childish
decisions taken by the other Christian leaders at that
time, mainly the president Amine Gemayel that was concerned
on eliminating the LF and a re-election for himself instead
of worrying about the Christian community that was being
attacked brutally by Druze who were supported by the Syrians
and Palestinians and armed mainly by Israelis.
