Gen.
Aoun called on the Lebanese on Thursday to stage a civil
disobedience revolt against Gen. Lahoud's Syrian-backed
regime, charging that the judicial system has been transformed
into a "tool of oppression" in Lebanon.
"The people are face to face against the existing
authorities that do not respect the will of the people
of Lebanon," Aoun said in an interview with the
Kuwaiti newspaper AS Siyassah, which went on the newsstands
of the Arab world Thursday morning.
"Therefore,
the people have to confront this authority through
civil disobedience." said Aoun, whose wrath has
been triggered by Monday's ruling of the Constitutional
Council that reversed the Metn by-elections results.
The
CC is the highest judicial authority in Lebanon. Aoun
accused the regime of turning the judiciary into a
"tool of suppression" it uses to clobber
the opposition and muzzle the freedom of the media,
An Nahar quoted him as saying in separate statements
he released in Paris.
There
was no immediate reaction from the Lebanese authorities.
The last previous call for civil disobedience came
from maverick Shiite fundamentalist leader Sheikh
Sobhi Tufaili, who led a revolt in the impoverished
Baalbek-Hermel district of the Bekaa Valley.
Tufaili,
the first Hizbullah secretary-general in 1989-1990,
has been expelled from the party for the Bekaa Valley
civil disobedience mutiny. He is now a fugitive, reportedly
on the run in the hills overlooking his hometown of
Brital.
