Two
human rights organizations condemned the detention of
five Lebanese Forces militants including Samir Geagea's
ex-political adviser Toufic Hindi.
In a joint communiqué issued Tuesday, the "New
Human Rights Organization Lebanon delegation"
and the "Human Rights Organization Lebanon,"
said that the detention conditions of the five men "do
not meet international standards."
Hindi,
along with Selman Samaha, Elie Keyrouz, Antoine Bassil
and Habib Younes were arrested in an army crackdown
on LF militants and supporters of General Michel Aoun
on August 7.
Despite
the fact that the communiqué said the prisoners
are being "well treated", it called on the
authorities to allow the prisoners to stand trial
before a civil court not a military court as expected.
The
communiqué added that the prisoners were arrested
"while practicing their right to freedom of speech
and peaceful rally, which makes their detention political."
