Prosecutor-General
Adnan Addoum is considering legal proceedings against
Gen. Aoun's supporters and Samir Geagea's Lebanese Forces
in America for calling Lebanon a terrorist country that
should be attacked by the United States.
Addoum's move came in response to a call from Speaker
Berri, who denounced "those trying to slander Lebanon
abroad, whose treason has reached the level of spending
hundreds of million dollars to brand their own country
as terrorist."
The
ad appeared in the Washington Times and was attributed
to the Council of American-Lebanese Organizations.
Addoum said he had asked for a copy of the add to
decide on the grounds for the legal proceedings.
The
Washington Times add came a day after a $1 million
advertisement the Lebanese government had ran in five
leading American dailies to proclaim solidarity with
the people of the United States against terrorism.
Addoum
has also revealed that Interpol had asked him for
data about 20 foreigners in the framework of the investigation
into the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington
Sept. 11.
He
said the list included no prominent names in Lebanon,
no even Abu Mohjen. "I will release the names
soon to guard against any misinterpretation that might
hurt Lebanon's image," Addoum said.
The
Interpol request sought whatever data the Lebanese
authorities possessed about the 20 suspects foreigners
in term of fingerprints, police records, passports
and transit visas.
