Forces supporters detained since yesterday after contacts
that Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir made with relevant
authorities.
Official sources revealed that the detainees have been
reminded that the Lebanese Forces are a dismantled political
party and militia and thus they are not allowed to exercise
any political activity in this framework.
In fact, a delegation of the families of the LF martyrs
and those detained the last couple of days has visited
Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir today morning
and demanded their release.
Upon their request, Sfeir made contacts with relevant
authorities and the detainees were released soon after.
On the other hand, Sethrida Geagea, the wife of incarcerated
head of the dismantled LF Samir Geagea, stressed, in
an interview with An-Nahar newspaper, the importance
of national entente adding that the LF in under the
law and do not intend in any circumstance to violate
the laws.
Security Forces had arrested yesterday a number of LF
supporters after a mass held on Sunday for the commemoration
of the LF martyrs in Maifouk, northern Lebanon, turned
into a rally that denounced the Syrian presence in Lebanon
and demanded the release of Geagea from prison.
